Bengali Fish Fry —-

An awesome snack which i made with bhetki fillet (Barramudi fish) — served with Kasundi ( mustard sauce)
Whenever I miss Kolkata — I try to make this if I get hold of the fillets —- and it act’s like a balm  for me and my family —

Usually served as a starter or a snack item in Bengali cuisine —

Star Ingredient

Bhetki Fillet

Main Ingredients:

  • 500 gms of  Bhetki fish (Barramundi) fillets
  • 3 large onion
  • 1 inch ginger
  • 8 to 9 garlic cloves
  • 5 to 6 green chillies
  • Bread crumbs ( as required)
  • 2 tbsp of lemon juice
  • 3 eggs
  • 1/2 cup coriander leaves paste (optional)
  • Vegeable oil for frying
  • Salt to taste

Method:

Wash and clean the fish fillets .

There are two steps of marination

First marination will be of only salt and lemon juice , roughly for an hour .

Meanwhile make a paste of onion, ginger , garlic, green chillies and coriander leaves (which is totally optional ).
After one hour take out the fishes and marinate with the masalas in a fresh bowl and keep it aside for 5 to 6 hours .

Take a medium-sized  sized bowl and beat in the eggs , black pepper powder and some salt .

Spread the breadcrumbs on a flat plate .

Now take out the fillet one by one from the marination , first egg wash it and then coat it with breadcrumbs , this process should be repeated twice for each fillet — then only it will be crispy —

Now after the coating is done , keep it on fridge for an hour in order to set the coating .

Heat oil in a frying pan ,  and deep fry the fishes till it takes a brown colour —
Take out on a paper napkin to soak the excess oil  and serve them hot —-  🙂
