My comfort food — Bengali Bhate Bhat

This is a  truly bengali affair —- you can call it as an affair with bhate bhat that we all bengalis have from our childhood days—

So simple yet so soul comforting —

It evokes many childhood memories — when we used to be sick or down it’s sure a mood lifter and also a saviour when maid did not turn up  or simply wanted to have this delicious meal —

Mainly it comprises of Govindo bhog chal — (small atop chal– used to make kheer) — with a generous amount of Ghee (clarified butter ), along with some mashed potatotes , boiled egg and fried vegetables.

Even when I am describing it , my mouth is salivating —–

There is nothing to this recipe that has to be explained only  the mashed potato is made in a typical bengali way with mustard oil —

Recipe of Mashed Potato

Ingredients :

  • 3 to 4 boiled potatoes
  • one sliced and fried onion
  • 2 to 3 tsp of mustard oil
  • 2 to 3 dried red chilli
  • salt to taste

Method :

Heat  some mustard oil in a non-stick frying pan , add in the sliced onion, and dried red chilli , fry until dark brown in colour — now add in the mashed potato , salt and fry until it slightly changes colour —

That’s it your mashed potato is ready to eat —

Serve it with steamed and sticky Gobindho bhog rice , some fried pointed gourd , one boiled egg , and last but not the least a generous amount of Ghee or clarified butter — 🙂
