This is a simple rice dish flavoured with jeera or cumin seeds. It is the most preferred rice dish in India to go with dal or any veg or non-veg curry.
Slightly sautéed with ghee and garam masala and certainly cumin seeds this is a rice dish that gives competition to other flavored rice dishes of India and surely comes out as a winner.
- 5 to 6 cups of boiled basmati rice. (Note : The rice should be grainy in texture)
- 2 to 3 tbsp of jeera or cumin seeds
- 1 tsp of whole garam masala ( cardamom, cloves , javitri or mace , cloves )
- Salt as needed
- One sliced onion
- 2 tbsp of ghee
- 2 or 3 slit green chilli
- 3 to 4 tsp of cashew nuts (optional)
Cook the rice till grainy in texture and set it aside to cool.
Add 2 tbsp of ghee in a frying pan, add whole garam masala, green chilli and onion and saute for 2 to 3 minutes .
Lower the heat and add the jeera , again saute it till the time it starts smelling earthy.
Add in the cashew and salt as well , and lastly the cooked rice.
Gently mix all the prepared masala with the rice , check seasoning and put off the flame.
