Pav Bhaji — Simply irresistible — 

The best Mumbai fast food or street food which is popular all over India .  Vegetables are boiled , pureed  and then blended with spices and served hot with buttery pavs .
It also helps in feeding vegetables to those small prince and princess  in our house (always making nakhras while having vegetables) —

It is simple irresistible—–

It is known as a snack recipe but in my house it has been elevated to dinner menu,  since it has lot’s of vegetables , potato and butter  and it is a completely filling and a satisfying dish—

But mostly in India it is treated as a snack or evening craving —-

You can have it any time of the day — breakfast , brunch, lunch , evening snack or dinner —  it is the most tasty  and satisfying dish you can ever have and top of it — it is easier to make —–

Main Ingredients:

  • 4 medium sized potato
  • 1/2 cup of green peas
  • 3/4 cup chopped cauliflower
  • One onion (chopped)
  • one capsicum
  • 1/2 cup of chopped carrot
  • 2 medium sized tomato
  • 2 tsp of ginger garlic paste
  • 1 tsp of red chilli powder
  • 1 tsp of cumin and coriander powder each
  • 4 to 4 tsp of readymade pav bhaji masala
  • Vegetable  oil and butter as per requirement
  • salt to taste
  • Pav buns 2 piece per plate
  •  chopped coriander leaves for garnishing


Transfer all the vegetables except tomato  in a pressure cooker with 2 cups of water and some salt … cook on a medium flame — for 2 whistles and then switch off the flame

Mash the vegetables with a potato masher or using the back side of  large spoon.

Heat  2 tsp of vegetable oil and 2 tsp of butter together in a non-stick pan – add in the chopped onion and fry till translucent — add in the ginger garlic paste  and saute it —

Add in the chopped tomatoes and capsicum, fry for 2 to 3 minutes or until it becomes soft — now add  all the dry masalaa ( red chill powder , cumin and coriander power, pav bhaji masala).

Stir and cook for a minute , add in some water and all the boiled and mashed vegetables.

Mix well and add in salt — put off the flame when all the water evaporates , add in some lemon juice for additional flavour.

Add chopped coriander leaves before serving.

Heat  a separate tawa on medium flame — cut the pavs horizontally into halves —

Add 1 tsp of butter toast the buns on both sides  till brown spots appear ,  serve these buttery toasted buns immediately with a small bowl full of bhaji —-

You can always add in some more butter  for additional taste —–
